Disney holidaymakers: stranded on monorail for three hours

'Hundreds of tourists were stranded on the monorail system at Disney World in Florida for up to three hours after it suffered a power failure'

Emergency crews had to lead more than 300 people to safety after the rail system shut down due to a computer failure.

Holidaymakers were trapped in hot and airless carriages.

Trapped passengers were either helped to safety by fire and rescue crews or the trains were towed back into a nearby station after the 1am power failure.

A spokesman for Disney said passengers were never in any danger.

“Our commitment to safety guides all we do, and this is the type of situation we train for,”said Andrea Finger, spokeswoman for Walt Disney World.

“We extend our apologies to guests who were affected and are working directly with them.”

The incident came several months after monorail operator was killed in a collision between two trains.

Austin Wuennenberg was the first fatality in the history of the Walt Disney World monorail system.

In September, the park's monorail experienced an electrical failure that shut down some parts of the transportation system.

The Monorail, which has 15 miles of track, connects the various theme parks and takes guests into the parks from the giant car parks.
